Microsoft Zune rumored to launch in mid-november

It’s getting precise. At the Retail Vision Summit (picture), Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer unveils four orientations/ambitions for Zune, dubbed the iPod buster. The device’s going to:
- Demonstrate “the holistic approach to music and entertainment”
- Provide a “family of hardware and software”
- Ship the first models this year
- Enable “technology and community share entertainment experiences”
Engadget has more details. The device should come out by November 14th, with these specifications: 30GB drive, a three color (black, brown and sad white) collection, FM tuner, 13 first party accessories at start, and a 50% larger screen than its ‘much dear cousin’ iPod.
In addition, as we already know, Zune will be WiFi-enabled, and rely on Windows Live Messenger to start VoIP calls.
But another scenario could be possible: Microsoft finding its way to become a MNVO, turning its device to be dual-mode phone, switching back and forth between cellular and WiFi signals whenever possible. Such an idea is plausible, as Ray Ozzie insisted on Microsoft become an all-in-one media, including mobile Internet and cellphones.
