Online voice party: Making a 500 people conference call

Here’s a slice of what a team leader could brainstorm: Six or ten people to allow in a conference call? If I only invite six guys, who will I choose, because there might be some smart kids left out. So why don’t I include them all. My manager has shrunk my team budget. Yeah, but, oh, I know, it’s not possible, this computer is an AMD machine!… Sometimes the brainstorm looks easier, but still, it shouldn’t exist at all. Conference calls at the VoIP age should be easier.
Now, see what the Gizmo Project is going to feature: A 500+ people conference calls, including hybrid PC-to- and PC-to-landline conference calls.
Technically, the feature hasn’t been developed by SIPphone itself (the company behind the Gizmo software and that Michael Robertson manages). Vapps did it. And the feature is nothing but that its call center platform, that used to roll out up to 500 people conference calls.
Skype also partnered the company to propose the same service, called High speed conferencing. But Skype users are charged 0.05 euros a minute. Technically, SIPphone is catching on Skype. With a significant difference, the cheaper phone prices Gizmo has been practicing for a while. And if you don’t dig conference calls that much, you can imagine this is going to be a nice tool to quickly shape your virtual call center.
