A touchless iPod for Christmas?

So far, talking about the touchless iPod is like telling a story about the Lock Ness monster. But it’s real, according to Gordon Kelly from Trust Reviews, and it might be available as soon as this December — right the release of the first iPhone. Besides the release date, not many more details, except that it will come with a 6Gb hard drive.

So, don’t be disappointed if this multimedia player just allows you to play tunes and videos, without WiFi connectivity and VoIP features. But at least, if this rumor is confirmed, another one might become true: The voice-enable iPhone, for which Apple has filled a patent application. It should be able to do text-to-speech and commanded by voice.

  • Gordon’s story seems sincere and legit The one thing however that makes the Trust Reviews story suspect is the December release date. No way Apple, or any other manufacturer, is going to release a new product in December, when it’s much too late to fill the stores with product or enter the public’s mind for holiday purchases.

IF it’s coming out, it will be very soon (late Oct or very early Nov); but my hunch is it will be January for the MacWorld Expo when most of the major launches occur. By then, we may discover it to be a combo video/phone iPod.

  • Great point. There’s another way to look at Apple’s strategy. It might also roll it out on limited edition. As the expectation is high on this period, market introduction price could be higher for the first ones, then lowered after December.
