WiFi phones will soon blend into GSM mobile phones, announced mainstream media after that the CTIA in Las Vegas closed its doors. Here’s one of the reasons: a cellphone chip, promised by Qualcomm, that will support the two high-speed wireless standards EV-DO and W-CDMA.

We’re not sure if this would make people work harder, but at least, the forthcoming chip and related new mobile phones would allow travellers to access data from everywhere. In North America, they will rely on the EV-DO telecommunication standard, whereas in Europe, they will adopt the W-CDMA one.

Qualcomm promised to deliver its new “world-class” component by the end of this year. But will this lower the price of the new mobile phones?
