The phone booth that comes to you

Poor doesn’t mean stupid. And in Kampala, capital of Uganda, there’s an almost smart idea that brings telephone services in non-served communities. “A mobile and wireless phone kiosk in Kamapala draws its power from a car battery (in the red box),” reports Jan Chipchase.

But we say almost because “despite its bicyclesque design they were not particularly mobile ― one or more tyres were often flat and they remained tethered in one place for the duration of the day.” You have to do with the restricted materials over there.

Now, just one suggestion. The idea, combined a WiFi mesh technology, could become a mobile phone booth able to provide unlimited calls for poor people for a very cheap price. Jonah Peretti and its MagicBike has envisioned the idea, but not that far. But as telephone service could be set for a very small price, there’s a business for emerging countries.
