Will open source cellphones emerge?

Right now, there just are a handful of open source cellphone models available in current market. Market share: close to null. But it’s growing, and according consultancy ABI Research, the portion of open source cellphones would increase within 5 years up to 76 million units in activity.

But is it that significant? With recent stats showed that 2.5 billion mobile phones are used worldwide, 76 million would make a mere 3 percent. We guess that the real question is more about what is called open source cellphones. Is that the operating system (in that case, Motorola is already doing it) or is it the whole handset like the Trolltech GreenPhone?
