Jabbin: The open source community VoIP software
-

Know Jabber? Oh, come on. Jabber is ‘the’ Linux of instant messaging, offering all the conventional functions of the AIM, ICQ, MSN or Yahoo messenger. Big news: Jabber has now its VoIP client, Jabbin.

Basically, Jabbin is following the wake of Skype and Google Talk ― already taken by Gaim, other must-have Linux instant messaging application ― and permits free PC-to-PC calls, directly connects two users by taking advantage of the various protocols and codecs.

So far, Jabbin is a low-features application built on top Jabber toolkit. But as Mozilla Firefox tackling Microsoft Internet Explorer hegemony, the open source community giant shoulders and some eventual buzz could turn it rapidly into a more powerful voice application that other close source ones.
Your chance to become popular

Now, for those who earned some precious graphics talents in their, here’s the scoop: The Jabbin team is looking for a new logo design. If you think you have chance to win the competition, just drop your logo proposition in their dedicated forum ― 6 logo have already been submitted until now. The given deadline is February 28 and the winner will be elected on the first week of March.
What’s the prize? Who cares about the prize? A T-shirt with your logo. Yep. Not great but that’s the charm of open source community.
