Hotxt: hotter than Mabber?

Hotxt is another start-up experimenting some tactics to get rid of traditional mobile operators. Its bottom line: a text messaging service that allows members to send SMS for almost nothing. And our tiny imagination made us yell: But, it’s Skype for the SMS, dude!
In fact, it’s not. First: Because Hotxt is based in the United Kingdom, just took off from its beta version, and hasn’t convinced zillions users.
Second: Even if Hotxt uses the mobile Internet to deliver text messages, as always in the mobile phone market, nothing is free. Users have to subscribe after downloading/installing the SMS delivering application on their Java-enable mobile phones. Plans start at £1 (around €1.5) per week, and SMS sending costs a fraction of a penny.
A comment on GenBeta indicates that if receivers outside from the Hotxt network have to pay for getting the incoming SMS. No one else seems to confirm this information.
Anyway, Hotxt seems to jump out of the box in the right time for taking the lead in the low cost SMS market. But unfortunately for them, Mabber, the nifty application for mobile phones, provide the same mobile text messaging. For free.

hotxt is trying to be simple, cheap SMS service and is not the first one. maber is trying to take SMS to chat - very different. Waiting for SMS to email (not really new) and SMS to blog. Should not be difficult for either of these companies.
Hi Klass. Blogging by SMS could already be done, although not all mobile phones could launch those applications. And well, in essence, you’re totally right on Hotxt and Mabber. But free SMS and SMS to chat are just two different means to provide the same thing.
