Ads to appear on cellphones

Sprint Nextel, Verizon, and Cingular are going to introduce ads on cellphones. “Cell phone companies are eyeing ads as a way to combat declining revenue from voice calls, where the are cutting prices to attract customers,” reports the WSJ/CNN, which noted that mobile operators start including ads on the own websites.

For the moment, there will be visual ads, just the kind of banners people are already screening on the Net. Not the richer ones, where phone users could interact with their voice or their handset, or the GPS-like ones, where people get geographically-relevant commercials.
