Skype rocking its free SkypeOut in France and soon across Europe. But Jajah on stage at the DEMO conference and might attract new investments. Just like the European now American startup, VoIP companies are doing pretty well these days.
You’re wondering which one will grow fast enough to rival Skype. We’re compiled this short list of companies to monitor, based on venture capitals they grabbed. Skype will be set as the reference because of the $2.6 billion pressure put on its shoulders.
- RebTel. $20 million from Index Ventures and Benchmark Capital.
- Jajah. $2 million from Sequoia Capital, plus $5 million from GlobeSpan Capital. Figures might be a lot bigger.
- SIPphone/Gizmo Project. $6 million from Dawntreader Ventures.
- SoonR. $6 million from Clearstone Venture Partners, with a participation of Intel Capital.
- M5 Networks. $7.75 million. Round led by Edison Venture Fund, which also included Greycroft Partners and Milestone Venture Partners.
